Drilling Rigs
Hushpak was given a brief to design, manufacture and fit enclosures for drilling rigs. This required silencing the engine and hydraulics systems. This posed some interesting problems for the design team:
- Heavy plant such as this require extremely good sound isolation whilst allowing free airflow for normal engine aspiration and cooling.
- The enclosure must achieve noise suppression while still allowing access for maintenance requirements. A poorly designed enclosure often results in maintenance being neglected, which has a big impact on the bottom line of a mine’s operation.
- The solution had to allow the customer to remove and replace major plant items in the future, during major maintenance events – a factor often overlooked by competitors.
Hushpak successfully met the customer’s brief while addressing each of the major issues raised.
