Drilling Rigs

Hushpak was given a brief to design, manufacture and fit enclosures for drilling rigs. This required silencing the engine and hydraulics systems. This posed some interesting problems for the design team:

  1. Heavy plant such as this require extremely good sound isolation whilst allowing free airflow for normal engine aspiration and cooling.
  2. The enclosure must achieve noise suppression while still allowing access for maintenance requirements. A poorly designed enclosure often results in maintenance being neglected, which has a big impact on the bottom line of a mine’s operation.
  3. The solution had to allow the customer to remove and replace major plant items in the future, during major maintenance events – a factor often overlooked by competitors.

Hushpak successfully met the customer’s brief while addressing each of the major issues raised.
